my boyfriend, dog (sedona) & i would love to watch your dog while you travel! our dog really loves the company of other dogs, but we are moving in the next 2 years and can't get another dog :(

however, we have a nice little home near the foothills with a huge fenced in backyard! if you plan on traveling and have a dog you can't take, keep us in mind. we are very loving!

would expect your dog was house trained and if has chewing problem would come complete with a kennel. would also arrange dog meet-n-greet. we love dogs! up for cash trade or combo. very affordable :)

Logrhythm Music CD Celebration Performance

LogRhythm Music is having a post CD release/celebration. We last had one for Brain Massage in Oct. 2004 and people have been hounding us for another ever since. We missed doing one for Brain massage II, so we will make this a II & III celebration.

When: Sunday Oct 18, 2009 at 7:00pm and ending somewhere around the 9pm hour, give or take a few minutes.

Where: 424 East Simpson St., Lafayette, CO 80026. The studio is called Mohr Fire Recording Studio. Entrance is the White door on
the East side of the building off of Michigan Ave.

How much: Suggested donation of $10, but no one turned away for lack of funds. CD's will be available for purchase with a discount for a complete set.

The Musicians: Per & Eileen Hultquist on Didgeridoos, Hang, NAI Flute, Fujara and whatever else is within reach. Tessalin Green on Keys/Synth. Tony Zappitelli on Guitar, and newest member Ani Jackson on Tablas. Special guest sit-ins by Scott "Gusty" Christensen on Harmonica, percussion, etc.
Possibly an appearance by contributing artist and Kalimba master Cornelius Duncan.

There will be an opportunity for open participation with percussion....bring shakers, small drums, rattles, etc.

The music will be mostly new, will all be trance-danceable and we want to encourage dancing. Chair seating is limited (35) and floor seating spaces(25) will be available. You may want to bring your own mats, cushions or folding chairs.

We encourage RSVP's so that we may be sure to have enough room for everyone.

Free space?

Where in the whole county of Boulder would I be able to use some free space? I'm shooting a video this fall/winter and using my huge green screen setup.....but where to shoot? Getting tired of everything costing a LOT of money these days. It doesn't have to be a studio....anyplace roomy with a few electrical outlets would be fine for once or twice a month for a few hours or afternoon.

FREE FESTIVAL- Rythms On The Rio - August 22-23

I wanted to let you know about a free festival we are putting on in South Fork CO, on August 22nd and 23rd 2009.

The festival is called Rhythms On The Rio (www.rhythmsontherio.com).

It will be a free 2 day festival with on-site and local camping. It will be a pass the hat donation based benefit for the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust, and the High Valley Community Center for kids, and is being put on by The South Fork Music Association, a non-profit volunteer 501-3C Group.

Headling acts will include the Nershi-Law Trio (formerly Honkeytonk Homeslice) and friends, Drew Emmitt, Great American Taxi, and others. Appearing with Bill and Jill Nershi will be Scott Law, and Darol Anger (plus maybe some other unannounced guests). The Darol Anger Trio, and others, will also appear that
day. On August 23rd 2009, Great American Taxi, Susan Gibson, Pete Kartsounes, and others will also be appearing.

The festival will take place on the grassy banks of the Rio Grande river in the San Juan mountains of South Fork CO (just over Wolf Creek Pass from Pagossa Springs and west of Alamosa in the town of South Fork on highway 160), on August 22nd and 23rd 2009. It is easy to get to, and should be a kind, relaxed, real good time for everyone. Tickets are free, but must be downloaded off of the web site.

You take Canyon Blvd through Boulder West up the Mtn. to Nederland (when the speed limit says 25, don't go above it! It's a speed trap!) turn left right after the roundabout on 1st st.
Then, on April 11th at the Laughing Goat cafe 8:00P-11:00P It's between 17th and 18th Streets on the North side.

Who can help me go dreadlock in Boulder?

I'm looking for someone in Boulder who can help me turn my long hair into dreadlocks. I know it's a bit of a chore to do for a stranger (i.e. lots of back combing, etc.) so I don't mind paying or trading for the time, or even going to a salon if the stylist is experienced and can do it without using perms, chemicals, wax, etc. I'm not planning to do this right away, but I wanted to go ahead and put out feelers to see if I can find someone to do it for me locally (I don't want to trek to Denver for this if I can avoid it). I'm going to school in Boulder January through the end of March, and would like to book some gigs while out there.

I was resident DJ at Alex Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors for their homestretch run (they're moving upstate NY) and the Freek Factory in-house sound engineer and producer.

All that said, I would like to play some gigs in Colorado while I'm out there, mostly for some extra cash while I'm in school.

I'm not expensive, ($250 is fine) and play a very wide variety of styles from tech-house to breaks to d&b to glitch and back, remixed Live using Ableton and hardware controllers.

DNC protest

Is anybody here going to the DNC protests coming up? Personally, I prefer Obama to McCain but I have issues with both candidates and both parties on issues from foreign policy to the patriot acts. I plan on raising awareness of these issues in hopes of encouraging Obama to adopt these issues or revise his policy on them.

2 lovely women from Santa Cruz are looking for a place to stay in Boulder while we attend the aerial dance festival put on by Frequent Flyer Productions. We're both in our early 30's, outgoing, active, healthy, environmentally conscious, and down to earth. We'd love to share a guest room in a house and could sublet it. We could also pitch a tent in a safe outdoor space.

We're also hoping to manifest a couple of bikes to help get us around while we are there. Who needs to rent a car and use gas? Who needs to stay in a stuff hotel and use those resources? Plus, we'd like to meet more people in the fun, funky, extended family of creative and active freaks.

Recycling Project

Currently I am working on a "Texas Recycle" project. I am customizing 26 gal. cans. There is a daytime photo of one in my album. The logos will be lit at night, like an "exit" sign. I am going to try to recycle at the major events in the Austin area (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas are close enough...+/- 3 hour drive). Anyhow, I think some of y'all should take on the project as well. Obviously there is still a problem with not recycling at major events.

This project would probably be a good source of extra income for college folk.

Hello family! In these great times and transitions many projects are coming into the hands of the One love Consciousness Project. The first one is the Mandala center here in Boulder. The mandala center is a wonderful venue for the family to use for sacred ceremony, yoga, meditation, massage center, and open to embody other uses.. In this moment the Mandala center family is looking for volunteers in several different fields. At this time we are in desperate need for dedicated creators, promotors, musicians, healers, and light workers to come together to discuss the future of this great project.

The Mandala center is getting a new building/warehouse, but the current building can be kept if able to reach the new rent, which is way more than can be afforded at this time, so time to move it seems.

According to his web site (http://www.ottsonic.com), Ott will be performing a special 3-hour late night set of live + DJ at Mishawaka Amphitheater on Saturday, May 31st!

YEAH!

For anyone who enjoyed the vibes and tunes Twisted Conspiracy tour at the Boulder Theatre or the Ogden, I would HIGHLY recommend you check this out. Ott is a UK psychedelic dub producer who remixed "Hallucinogen in dub" - and in the opinions of many genre aficionados.. he is the only other person on the planet who makes music of the same caliber of as Simon Posford.

He does delicious, paradisical, organic, deeply psychedelic downtempo dub and worldbeat music.

I personally like his tunes a lot better than Shpongle, and he engineers the warmest, richest bass I have ever heard in my life!

This is a rare treat in Colorado. Check it.

Yasamina, for 30 years the Grand Dame of the vibrant Utah Bellydance scene, will offer an intro Bellydance class this Sunday, May 20, at 6:00 pm, in the cool, cool basement studio of a house in Boulder.

Everyone is invited to stay for a potluck at the house afterwards, and an open dance for practicing what you learned or general dancing fun to modern Middle Eastern dance music.

No experience is necessary, and even if you are not a beginner you will still learn important techniques. (An advanced class may be offered on Monday, the 21st).

This is a rare opportunity as Yasamina is visiting Boulder for the week, and lives in Salt Lake City.

Bellydancing is great for loosening and opening up the lower back, abdomen, hips, and pelvis.

It also provides significant emotional, psychological and spiritual benefits, and is helpful for those suffering from sexual or emotional trauma, low self-esteem, repressed sexuality, or a shutdown feminine essence.

Experience the joy of Bellydancing in a safe and supportive environment with other women. The cooperative collective camaraderie is as nurturing as the dance.

Bellydancing is a 5,000+ year old art form practiced by almost exclusively by women. Yasamina is one of the most experienced Bellydance teachers in the country.

As Director of the Kismet Dance Company in Salt Lake City, she has taught 1,500 dancers since 1972, presented 91 Bellydance festivals, 23 concerts and hundreds of clinics. Her specialty is the Zils (finger cymbals), and she is an expert Dumbek drummer. Utah has a surprisingly dense concentration of Bellydance troupes, 90% of which were started by Yasamina's students.

The cost of this intro class is only $15 (normally $25). Wear loose-fitting clothes, and a shawl or scarf hips to tie around the hips over the clothes.

An advanced class will be on Monday the 21st. Advanced Zil patterns (4/4/, 7/8, 9/8) will be taught, as well as advanced Bellydance techniques.

Metalheads?!

So I'm moving to Boulder from Connecticut in September, and I'm trying to figure out where all the metalheads are out there! I go to shows all the time around CT, NY and NJ, but I hear there isn't much of a metal scene in Boulder. It looks like tours go through Denver at least. Some bands I like include Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, Bloodbath, Ensiferum, Children of Bodom, Megadeth and Mastodon just to name a few. I play Rollerderby, breathe fire, go to industrial/goth clubs and snowboard. So, I'd also like to find people into that stuff as well. Are there any local burners? I'd like to meet up and do some fire stuff! I've lived in CT my whole life, so I don't have any friends (yet) in CO.

In addition, there will be a DJ set by Simon Posford, lead composer of legendary psychedelic electronica Shpongle and Hallucinogen...and also a DJ set by Prometheus (Benji Vaughn) who is known in the global trance scene for his full-on psytrance project Prometheus.

Best Dentist in Boulder

I moved to Boulder last year and was looking for a good dentist. I posted a message on here about it a while ago.

I saw an ad in the Daily Camera and ended up going to Dr. Christopher Chamberlin (1840 Folsom, Suite 303, Boulder, CO - 80302 -- 303-544-9636).

I was impressed with his service and level of professionalism. It was genuinely remarkable (meaning worthy of remarking or posting about).

He is the only dentist I have ever gone to that actually seemed to care about my teeth. He showed concern like I was his own son or family member. He doesn't just scrub and fill your teeth - he checks every single one of them carefully and is focused on teaching you how to care for them super well and protect them for life. Most dentists do a quick rush job and have a pleasant schtick, but Dr. Chamberlin was very sincere, friendly and thorough. I have been to him twice and he took time to make sure everything was just perfect.

This week we had to do a cleaning ($87) and filling ($174), but it was totally smooth and painless, and he gave me headphones so I could jam out to Bob Marley in the Wailers

It was one of the most pleasant interactions I have ever had with a health care provider. I actually look forward to going back to him next time (which is darn rare for a dentist appointment).

Hey folks!!! I'm going to be teaching a weekly class every Sunday in Golden, CO starting February 24th from 2:30 to 5:00pm. Cost is $16 for a single drop-in class or $105 for a 10-class punch-card. Men are welcome to 1 free sample class if they are interested.

Class Description: In these classes, technical dance is taught to give the dancer a foundation within the dance, & also instinctual dance so the dancer no longer thinks about executing moves, but learns to do what comes naturally as if it were second nature.

Hammerhead Sharqi Dance Technique is a style of World Fusion Bellydance that is based in American Tribal Style (ATS) & heavily influenced by elements of Modern-Egyptian Cabaret Style, Hip-Hop, Hula, African, Indian, & Latin dances & bears subtleties of other dance & movement styles including Javanese, Japanese, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Jazz, Ballroom, Martial Arts, as well as Yoga, Pilates, Gymnastics, & many more.

In these classes, the meditative communication channels between mind & body are opened to create a more expressive movement within the dance with a strong foundation & sharp mental focus.

Need help converting a vinyl LP to MP3

I have an LP which isn't available digitally, and I have no turntable or other necessary equipment to convert it to digital format (MP3). Can someone in Boulder or Denver do this for me (or recommend someone)?

BTW the album is a mid-70's Jamaican DJ record (Top Ranking Dillinger http://www.roots-archives.com/release/1504). Also I have loads of digital music (dub reggae, groovy electronica, old jazz, blues, classical, African, etc.) as an extra incentive to whoever can help me with this little task.

The only physical tips we have are that;
- He was upset when he left and had got in trouble with his female boss,
- He was supposed to meet some friends after work, but never showed up
- His Blazer was supposedly seen twice, in No. Utah, Park City within a week of his disappearance, but was never positively identified.
- October 18th a older man and 3-4 teenager boys were observed at a restaurant in Mexican Waters, AZ . . . the man behaved suspiciously, and four boys were all very hungry and ate their meal in silence. One boy looked like Chris, but could not be positively identified.
- 11/22/07 a girl working at a gas station in Cortex, CO "says' she can positively identify Chris as a boy that has come in several time, most recently with 2-3 day, trying to buy cigarettes . . . he is in bad shape, undernourished and drugged out . . . He doesn't have ID but has a passport.

My week in Boulder

Decided I wanted to move there so I figured I'd visit first. But I knew no one there, so I couchsurfed. I was pretty scared about the place after hearing a lot of negative things, some of which are pretty well summarized in http://onthewater.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/the-gore-tex-vortex-what-boulder-colorado-is-really-like/

I expected yuppies, fake hippies, fascist rock climbers and cyclists, vegan castro-loving dreadlocked trustifarian vegans, and self-righteous metaphysical SUV-driving asshats. Is this what I found?

NO! No No No. Not at all. Not even close. What I found was a small city nestled on the foothills of the rockies with eerily warm weather and painted blue skies, resoundingly positive people who were pretty eager to talk. On practically every shop there's a microbrewery, a coffeeshop, and a book store, all quite unique and worth visiting. There are bikes - everywhere - . Everyone is from someplace else, no one is from Boulder and most aren't from Colorado either, so it isn't like they don't like outsiders. It got to the point where someone could tell me they were from the town next to mine in CT and I wouldn't even bat an eye. Hell, I even ran into a friend from Elementary school on Pearl street and we spent the whole next day pub crawling. The hiking and biking trails are real close and you could spend a lifetime exploring them. Marc's article makes you feel like everyone who bikes there is a pro - not true. While there are bikes pretty much everywhere, almost all of them are either college kids on their way to class or busboys on the way to work, mostly on street bikes. If you go off into the hills you are more likely to see some pros, but plenty of grannys as well. Oh, and no one honks their horns.

Pretty much the only thing thats true in Marc's article is the last part when he says, "it's pretty damn nice here, actually".

That's my $.02. I wish I didn't have to wait six weeks to move there.

Metal trash cans and other "STOMP" like percussion needed for three

Me and my two hommies just got a gig in Telluride for a stomp influenced percussion session for a few days at the ski and snowboard festival. We have tons of percussion toys but never knew a metal trash can would cost so much. in which case we need your help. we just want to borrow, if interested, buy. None the less the event is the 13 & 14 of December. Any can, buckets or anything you feel is fun to hit with a drum stick in a rhythmic motion. Let us know, any help is needed. please be quick so we can have some time to rehearse.

Mime Awareness Day!

As you may or may not know, Mime Awareness Day took place in Boulder back in May sponsored by Busker Alley. It was kinda foo nee when the media suddenly showed up demanding mimes because they had hurry back to their tv station by 4pm. Little did they know this was an all day event.
What resulted was not only 9 News coverage but also exclusive coverage of mimes when they finally did show up later that day.

I am delighting in the possibility of making a move out in your direction! Will most likely work in Boulder, but live in Nederland or area near there, as my true desire is to really live in the beautiful mountains. But anyhow, how is the job market, I know it depends on your field but in general...any advice...I know one person there..andI'm excited, extremely excited! I am really into organic, MUSIC, dancing, loving, sustainability, consciousness, nature, animals ,good beer!!, and gettin my hands dirty... so if you have any recommendations for some beginning part time work or rooms for rent, give me a holler....I'm opening myself to many manifestations now and I am inviting guidance.

Hey all

My master plan is to move to boulder and get a job in a book store and try to find a job with somr sort of publisher - a magazine, a book, anything, really, and in any capacity. I'd even answer phone calls and fetch double shot mocha lattes for my boss. Just as long as I'm in with a publisher. Are there many opportunities in Boulder for this? And I imagine there are book stores that are eager to hire too, no?

9/29 & 9/30 Sustainability Fest in Lyons

Hey y'all,

I just got back from my (way too early in the) morning volunteer shift at the Boulder County Going Local Sustainability Fest at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons. It was disappointing to see that there were way more volunteers than attendees, so I thought I would do some last minute pimping for this event.

"A Renaissance of Local" is an event organized around the issues of sustainability and local activism. In addition to the usual Planet Bluegrass fare--music, food, beer, kids' tent, vendors--there are also workshops and speakers.

The events is very affordable and sure to be fun for everyone. If you have no plans for the day, consider checking it out! There's a great line up of music, plenty to do and see, easy parking, and informative programs. Safeway on Iris & 28th: a great Boulder grocery store!

I moved to Boulder this summer, and I am pleasantly surprised by the Safeway store on Iris and 28th. (The one on Arapahoe is a different story)

It is a real blessing after a couple of months of taking out mortgages to shop at Whole Food$ / Wild Oats / Vitamin Cottage, or else picking over the bare shelves of the Co-op.

For $50 at the Safeway I can fill my cloth bags with almost all organics and natural brands...

The staff there was really friendly to me, and I sure ate better this week than I have previously!

It's Safeway on Iris for me, until Boulder gets something like a Trader Joes.. or much better....a low cost, competitive, non-chain natural grocery store... that would make a killing here if it were viable....

Job Search

Hey!

So I'm looking for a job in Boulder and I thought I'd test the waters here in case anyone knows of any leads. I'm looking on craigslist and other job sites so what I'm really wanting is if anyone knows of anywhere specific (perhaps where you currently work?) that is hiring.

I'm a recent graduate and am pretty open to what's available. My resume is a little sporadic so entry level positions are better. I'd love to work outside and I'm trying to avoid office jobs but I can't be too choosey.

Earthdance Colorado

On September 14th-16th, 2007, Onetribe welcomes everyone to join us in celebrating Earthdance.

The event will feature varied styles of electronic music by some of the best local DJs and performers. Come dance with us to the sounds of psytrance, house, progressive, breaks, techno, drum'n'bass, and downtempo. The music will be going from 8:30pm on Friday until around noon on Sunday morning, with the ceremonial Prayer for Peace taking place at 5pm on Saturday afternoon. The full lineup will be released shortly.

There will also be various workshops, held on Saturday, during the day. If you are interested in having a workshop, please contact sage_persephone at yahoo dot com.

This year's gathering will be held in the lush forested foothills of the Rockies, less than 1.5 hours from Denver. We'll be asking for a donation to help cover our costs, but no one will be turned away. HELP SAVE THE BLACK ROCK GLAICER!!!

To the Colorado Burning Man Community:

I am sending this email as a last ditch appeal to ALL of you.
Boulder's own 'Black Rock Glacier' is in serious danger of not making
it out to the playa. Over the last four months or so, I have done all
I felt I could do to reach out to the local Colorado Burning Man
community for help building this massive project. The simple truth is
that the response was lackluster from the beginning, and only picked
up once I was able to offer BM tickets, and by that time it was very
late in the game. Perhaps it is my misunderstanding of Burning Man
ethos, but I've always thought it was supposed to be about gifting,
not bartering. Participation, not spectating. Community, not commodity.

The gift that Burning Man has given to the universe is a gift that has
and will change the course of lives and helps to shape what may occur
for our society in the future. Tens of thousands of people gathering
every year to connect to the phenomenal world and the other people in
it, when in the 'default' world we are either disconnected or
overconnected ? the ripple effect of awareness and consciousness ? can
be seen and felt, and will continue long after we have left this world.

Have you personally experienced or ever wondered what goes in to
creating the BM art that entertains and inspires you year after year?
I do have a crew of a certain number of people who do their best,
given their busy lives, to make it out to help as often as they can.
And they certainly have busted their asses, in the heat, in the rain,
late at night, to try and make this project a reality for your
collective enjoyment out in BRC. They have waded thru mountains of
trash at the Boulder County Recycling Center in 100 degree heat to
hand pick the 41,000 plastic bottles we need. They then de-capped,
de-neckringed, de-labeled, and disinfected those bottles. They have
been working on cutting, drilling, grinding, bolting and painting 8
tons of steel; Soldering 1500+ LED circuits, cutting and stripping
5000 feet of wire, etc, etc, etc...

But it unfortunately may not be enough. We need more help. We are
scheduled to leave for the playa in 10 days. I beseech you to make
some time in the next 10 days to come by our work yard in Louisville
and participate. Come and be a part of making this happen. Help. Help.
Help.

My seven year Burning Man journey thus far has pointed out over and
over again to me: the wonder of the phenomenal world and the world of
phenomenon within it? Faced with living in an era of destruction,
creation is essential to survival? Not being afraid to fully be who I
am while not feeling the need to judge others who are fully being who
they are, is to feel like I could sprout el wire illuminated,
sheet-metal wings and glide across the desert carrying a flamethrower
at a brisk 5mph, in goggles and a utili-kilt, effortlessly and
fearlessly - in endless wonder at the joyous phenomenon of the product
of radical self-expression... which is creation.

A journalist on our crew wrote this in an article about the Black Rock
Glacier: "As the fate of a potentially transformative art project
hangs in the balance, the question becomes: Will the community rally
and come out to contribute their part in building this magical glacier
in the hot, Nevada desert? Or is the Black Rock Glacier doomed to a
fate similar to the glaciers in the 'default' world... another wonder
lost to indifference and inconvenience?"
